EDL 522 Human Resources

Welcome to EDL 522. As part of the requirements for this course you will be required to post comments to this blog after every class session. These comments should be a reflection of the readings, lectures, guest speakers, activities, or discussions that occurred during the day.

I hope you enjoy the class and I will do my best to share with you the theoretical and practical lessons that you will need to be a successful school administrator.

The Good & the Bad

When Dr. Closen mentioned about courses possibly using more case studies rather than content related stuff I thought it was a great idea. I learn a lot from dissecting the case studies and making my own decisions on the situations. I'm not saying the other stuff isn't important but looking at the case studies & data is also very helpful.

By the way, the count of stories with good endings and bad endings is 4 to 9, respectively.

I agree that dissecting case studies is a good way to gain knowledge in the area of analysis. In my experience, I feel that a hands-on approach is the best way to learn. I also like the discussion that follows, that way you can not only form your own opinions, but get input from other perspectives. I hope some of the other EDL classes use this type of approach in the future.

i also agree. i learn better by doing so going through case studies works - i can read a text cover to cover and glean very little information but put me in reality and i do well.

I'm glad to see the required text for this class incorporates case studies. As in previous classes in the EDL program, we have used case studies as well. A lot of learning can occur from the involvement and input from our classmates. Dr. Closen appears to have a large knowledge base that will further our understanding through class discussion and sharing of the case studies.

I agree with the case study approach to our studies. It gives us problem solving skills and situational management skills that I feel will benefit us greatly in the future

I find more value out of case studies rather than relying purely on text for obtaining information. Case studies allow for a practical look at what really goes on and leads to discussion on other variations of those case studies.

I too have to agree. I feel getting to look at the information from IIRC and the other case studies is very beneficial. We need to know the what research says but in my experience with my first masteres the research isn't what you tend to use on a day to day basis when making decisions. This has been so far the best class I have taken in EDL.
