Board Policies
I found the assignment on board policy case studies to be very helpful. There were many things I learned not only through the discussion we had in class but within the board policy of my own district. There were many things that I feel would be helpful for our administration to review not only for their benefit but for the benefit of the faculty and staff. There was a policy in the handbook that related to the counselor's job and I found it very interesting that it addressed some of the things we discussed in class this weekend. It also is not what is being done in some of the buildings in our district. In fact, it would improve some things if it were being followed and I am waiting for the right time to bring it up! :-)

Personally, when I started "thumbing" through our district's manual, I was somewhat disappointed to find it fairly vague. Several of the "issues" we looked into were not present in the manual. Now, some sections gave reference to the collective bargaining agreement, but I would have thought most issues could have been found in the manual.
What I found interesting about the board policy review assignment was when I was looking through other policies that caught my eye. I found several policies that we definitely do not follow on a regular basis. I was wondering how common this is and what exactly would happen if someone called the individuals in charge on these policies? I do remeber one of our professors saying though that it is not which rules/laws we will break but instead how soon and how often.
