Competitive Salaries

I am not going to complain about my salary. I am not going to say it is great, or say it is horrible. I get most frustrated about the "salary debate" when it comes to professionals saying -- "you get out at 3:30 and you get summers off." We all have heard that before -- and yes, we have nice hours and a great summer -- BUT we all bring work home, spend time working on the weekends, and I know I spend some part of summer planning for the next year and participating in career advancement. Those are extra hours we don't get paid for, yet always have to defend. I am not asking for more money (--but don't give me a pay cut!!) -- but please understand that I am very dedicated to my profession.

I have to day I agree with Carrie on the salary thing. I am very tired of hearing the hours and sumemr arguement. Being in Special education my hours are rarely 8-3:30 with all of the staffings that I have to attend before and after school plus all of the outside of school trainings and cont ed that we are responsible for doing. Unlike in other professions I don't get paid overtime so if you actually averaged the amount of hours I actually work it wouldn't look as good as everyone thinks it does. I would like people outside of education to recognize all of the things that go on outside of the school day that teachers are not compensated for.
